Waiver request form

Current Waiver Order:

We use a waiver type system when it comes to new players entering the league. This will allow the league to stay competitive, equal out the # of active players on each team, and give the captains a little more control on who gets added to their team.

This is how the waivers are going to work.

Waiver Order will initially set to reverse Draft order.
Examples were based on Fall '05 season:
Draft order was:
#1 Rebels
#2 Goons
#3 Capitals
#4 IceToppers

thus the waiver order will be:
#1 IceToppers
#2 Capitals
#3 Goons
#4 Rebels

For those of you who don't understand waivers, I'll get to that in a moment.

When a new player comes in to play, he will play the first day for whatever team the person who brought him plays for. If Barry brings one of his friends to play hockey, he/she will play on Barry's team THAT week. If the new player wasn't specifically brought by someone, then he/she will be placed on the team who needs a player most (team with the fewest number of players there that day).

After the first week of play, the captains will be able to see how the new player plays and can attempt to pick him/her up with a waiver selection.

Attempted waivers pickup will need to be entered before Wednesday morning for processing. This gives the captains 3 days to decide and enter in their waiver claim, and then gives us at the BGHL time to inform the new player of their new team, colors, times, etc.

If no one uses their waiver position to try to pick up the new player, that player will then go to the team with the fewest ACTIVE players. If there is a tie between teams on ACTIVE players, he/she will be placed via least TOTAL roster.

This way new players that teams don't want to use their waiver position on wont always end up on the same team. If a player clears waivers, then no one's waiver position will change because of that player.

Determining # of active players are as follows:
If a player is there 2/3 or more of the time; they are considered fully active (1),
if they are there less than 1/3 of the time they are not active (0),
and if they are there 1/3 to 2/3 of the time they are considered semi-active (count as 0.5 players in the ACTIVE players count for that team).

The following will explain waivers... For those that already know how waivers work, you can skip this... or you can check it for errors that I may have in it

** How Waivers Work **

When a new player becomes available, teams can attempt to use their waiver position to pick up a player.

Examples were based on Fall '05 Season
current waiver positions
#1 IceToppers
#2 Capitals
#3 Goons
#4 Rebels

1) If only one team tries to pick up the person, then that team obtains the new player and their waiver position goes to the end of the list, moving everyone below him up. If Jeremy (the Capitals captain) uses his waiver to pick up a guy that no one else uses their waiver on, then he obtains the guy/girl and the new waiver order would be as followed.

#1 IceToppers
#2 Goons
#3 Rebels
#4 Capitals

2) If multiple teams attempt to pick up the same guy via waivers, then the team with the highest waiver position obtains the new player. (1 being highest and 4 being lowest)

Going back to the original waiver list for this example
#1 IceToppers
#2 Capitals
#3 Goons
#4 Rebels

If the Rebels, Goons, and IceToppers are all attempting to get the same guy, the player would go to the IceToppers because their waiver position is higher than both the Goons and the Rebels. Only the Icetopper waiver position would be affected and the new waiver position would then look like this:

#1 Capitals
#2 Goons
#3 Rebels
#4 IceToppers

3) If multiple players come in during a single week, teams can make waiver claims on both and will be processed in the order they are received unless otherwise indicated before the Wednesday due date.

Again, starting with the initial waiver order:
#1 IceToppers
#2 Capitals
#3 Goons
#4 Rebels

If Billy Bob and Joe Smith show up one week:
Example A)
-- the Capitals send in a waiver request for Billy Bob and request for Joe Smith(in that order)
-- the Goons send in a waiver request for Billy Bob,
then billy bob would go to the Capitals making the waiver order:
#1 IceToppers
#2 Goons
#3 Rebels
#4 Capitals

Now we would process Joe Smith, and since the capitals were the only team to put in a waiver request for him, they would get Joe Smith as well. And since the Capitals were already at the #4 waiver position, the waivers would still look like this.
#1 IceToppers
#2 Goons
#3 Rebels
#4 Capitals

Example B)
-- the Captials send in a waiver request for Billy Bob and request for Joe Smith(in that order)
-- the Goons send in a waiver request for Joe Smith(this changed from the previous example),
Again, starting with the initial waiver order:
#1 IceToppers
#2 Capitals
#3 Goons
#4 Rebels

We would process Billy Bob first (cause the capitals waiver order is higher and they wanted to process Billy Bob first) Making the waiver order
#1 IceToppers
#2 Goons
#3 Rebels
#4 Capitals

Now we process Joe Smith, and since the Goons waiver position is now higher than the Capitals, the Goons receive Joe Smith and the new waiver order is now:
#1 IceToppers
#2 Rebels
#3 Capitals
#4 Goons

There's the in's and out's of how the waiver system works, please let me know if you have any comments.
